Who Is AP Dhillon? From Punjab to the World
If you've heard "Brown Munde" at a wedding, a party or a festival, you already know AP Dhillon's sound. But who is the singer behind it? Here's a short guide for new fans and old ones.
Where is AP Dhillon from?
AP Dhillon was born Amritpal Singh Dhillon on January 10, 1993, in Punjab, India. He later moved to Canada, studied business administration at Camosun College on Vancouver Island, and now lives in British Columbia. That mix of Punjab and Canada runs through everything he makes.
How did his music start?
He started out with a small crew of friends: singers Gurinder Gill and Shinda Kahlon and producer Gminxr. Together they release music through their own label, Run-Up Records. His first single, "Fake", came out in 2019 with Shinda Kahlon. A year later, "Excuses" and "Brown Munde" carried his name far beyond Canada.
What does his music sound like?
Punjabi lyrics over hip hop, pop, R&B and trap beats. It's smooth enough for a late-night drive and loud enough for a packed room.
What has he done since?
- 2020: Not by Chance, made with Gurinder Gill and Money Musik.
- 2022: the EP Two Hearts Never Break the Same, home of "Summer High".
- 2023: the Prime Video series AP Dhillon: First of a Kind, and the first performance by a Punjabi-language artist at the Juno Awards.
- 2024: his Coachella debut and the album The Brownprint.
- 2025: a Juno Award for The Brownprint, a place in the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, and the double single OKAY STFU.
